This is a list of what DVSA’s Content Design team worked on during November 2016, and what we plan to do next.
It's divided into lists of new or updated content we've designed and published, existing content we're significantly improving, and what we plan to do during December 2016.
New or updated content
To meet the needs of users, we have:
- published new guidance on safety checks that drivers should carry out when they’re towing a trailer, as part of our #towsafe4freddie campaign - it includes a video we produced
- worked with the Government Digital Service (GDS) to update the guide on towing with a car to link to the safety checks, and set up a short web address of www.gov.uk/towing to direct users to the content
- worked with GDS to update information about when lorry, bus and coach drivers get their Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) card, following a policy change
- worked with GDS to update the information about our voluntary large goods vehicle driving instructor scheme, which is being replaced at the start of 2017
- worked with GDS to support the Traffic Commissioners for Great Britain to launch new beta services on GOV.UK to apply for a vehicle operator licence, manage a vehicle operator licence, find lorry or bus operators, check vehicle operator licence applications and find registered local bus services
- published a news story about Vauxhall Corsa Ds being recalled because of the risk of fire
- published an MOT special notice for the MOT industry about the rollout of security cards
- updated the list of vehicle model reports that can be used for Individual Vehicle Approval - we’re now publishing this as a CSV file rather than a PDF
- updated the Driver CPC qualification and training statistic data set with data for October 2016
- improved the flowchart showing routes to getting a motorcycle licence to make the process clearer
Improved content
To do a better job of making government work for users, we have:
- started to review content about becoming an authorised testing facility - these are private premises where DVSA examiners carry out annual vehicle tests on lorries, buses and coaches
- started work to replace the guide to maintaining roadworthiness and other related guidance with a single guide on keeping lorries, bus and coaches in a roadworthy condition
- started work to plan moving the MOT testing guide into the GOV.UK manual format, including planning user research to make sure it does make things easier for users
Things we plan to do next
In December 2016 we expect to:
- work with GDS to publish an improved guide about the compulsory basic training (CBT) course that moped and motorcycle riders need to take
- publish the CBT syllabus in the GOV.UK manual format
- work with GDS to make changes to the guide on becoming an LGV driving instructor ready for January 2017
- work with GDS to update the content about the DVSA taxi driving test, which ends on 31 December 2016
- improve the service to find a driving test centre so it gives users a better view of driving test availability
